An HPL sheet (High Pressure Laminate) is a solid panel made by pressing layers of kraft paper soaked in phenolic resin with a decorative surface under roughly 1,000 PSI and high heat. The result is a dense, non-porous board that resists water, UV rays, heat, scratches and termites.
Unlike ordinary laminate that must be pasted onto plywood, exterior grade HPL is self-supporting. It mounts directly onto an aluminium or MS frame, which is why architects specify it for villa elevations, showrooms, hospitals and commercial façades.
HPLMAKER manufactures both exterior grade panels for façades and weather-exposed surfaces, and interior grade panels for furniture, wardrobes, countertops and wall panelling — finished with a UV-protected surface that will not chalk, fade or peel the way paint does after two monsoons.
HPL solves the three problems every exterior wall in India faces — seepage, fading and repeated maintenance cost.
Phenolic resin core absorbs under 1% water. No swelling, no seepage stains, no dampness after heavy monsoon exposure.
FR grade slows flame spread with low smoke — essential for hospitals, schools, malls and high-rise façades.
Double-hardened UV surface holds its shade through 45°C summers. No chalking, no annual repainting bill.
No raw wood surface for termites or borers to feed on — far safer than plywood-backed cladding in humid climates.
Non-porous surface resists dust, pollution film and stains. Water and mild soap restore the original finish.
Wood grain, stone, granite, slate, concrete, metallic and solid matte — one material for the entire elevation scheme.

Paint looks cheapest on day one. Once scaffolding, labour and repainting every three years are added, HPL cladding usually becomes cheaper well before the 15-year mark — and looks considerably better throughout.
Exterior HPL is fixed on a frame-based cladding system, not pasted like tile. The ventilated gap behind the panel is what keeps the wall dry.
| Step | Process |
|---|---|
| 01 | Site measurement and panel layout drawing in square feet |
| 02 | Aluminium or MS sub-frame fixed and levelled on the wall |
| 03 | Sheets cut to size on CNC or carbide saw, edges sealed |
| 04 | Panels fixed with colour-matched rivets or concealed clamps |
| 05 | Groove joints aligned, protective film removed, handover |
HPL sheet price in India typically ranges from ₹90 to ₹250 per square foot depending on thickness, finish and grade. A 6 mm exterior grade sheet in wood or stone finish is the most commonly ordered option. Share your total area for a project rate.
Yes. Exterior grade HPL has a phenolic resin core with under 1% water absorption, so it does not swell, delaminate or develop seepage stains — which is why it is used on balconies, façades and washroom partitions where plywood fails.
A properly installed exterior grade panel lasts 20 to 25 years or more without losing colour or strength. HPLMAKER offers a warranty of up to 25 years on exterior grade sheets.
Normal laminate is about 0.8 mm thick and must be pasted onto plywood or MDF. HPL is 3 mm to 18 mm thick, self-supporting, and mounts directly on a frame. It is also pressed at far higher pressure, giving it exterior-grade weather and impact resistance.
Yes — exterior cladding is its primary use. Exterior grade panels are UV stabilised and weather resistant, installed on an aluminium or MS frame with a ventilated cavity behind them.
Fire-retardant grade HPL is available and is specified for hospitals, schools, malls and high-rise buildings. It slows flame spread and produces comparatively low smoke. Mention FR grade at the time of enquiry.
